Active Aging: A New Age of Independence

Americans are living longer and the growth in the number of older adults is unprecedented. In fact, according to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the US population of which is 65 and older, is projected to reach 23.5% or 98 million by 2060. As we age, we are more at risk for both chronic disease and acute injuries particularly due to falls. So how do we keep an aging population independent and healthy? Power Plate is a powerful way to address this issue.

Power Plate has been shown to improve bone density as well as balance in as little as 15 minutes three times per week according to the Journal of Bone Mineral Density. By using the Power Plate in a daily routine, the aging population can improve quality of life functions and perhaps allow for more independence in their home.

Fran, an active 72 year old recently purchased a Power Plate to use in her home because it made her “feel so good.” After using the Power Plate with her trainer at her local gym she decided to purchase one for her home so that she could use it daily. “I’ve noticed a tremendous difference in my joints and how I feel each day after working on my Power Plate. I don’t have the aches and pains I had before!” In addition to this she mentioned that she was also back to playing pickle ball and attributes this to her Power Plate use.

So how can you begin with the Power Plate as an active aging user? It’s as simple as putting your feet on the plate while seated. Sitting comfortably in a familiar chair that allows you to place both feet on the Power Plate will prevent falls, loss of balance, and ensure we don’t risk exhausted muscles.
