The acute effect of whole-body vibration on the vertical jump height
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a single, 1 minute bout of vibration using the Power Plate® machine as a viable warm-up activity. 90 students participated in this study. Participants performed one of the 8 possible treatments (30, 35, 40 and 50HZ, with High or Low amplitude) while the control group received no intervention. No differences were found between the individual treatment conditions. However, when compared with the control group, all the treatment conditions together showed a significant increase in counter movement jump at 5 and 10 minute post treatment.Conclusion:
The most significant finding in this study was that an acute bout of Power Plate treatment increases vertical jump height in the individuals regardless of intensity. A peak in counter movement jump height was seen 5 minutes post Power Plate intervention and decreased to values that were not significantly greater than baseline after 15 minutes.
